A modern Alaró sanctuary, the spirit of Can Oreneta
Can Oreneta, once a modest cottage in the village of Alaró, has been reimagined by Coertze & Clacher into a contemporary home that honours Mallorcan character while embracing modern comfort. The project balances old and new, preserving the spirit of the original building while transforming it into a light-filled, thoughtfully designed space that feels rooted in its environment. The journey from demolition to the final lime render reflects the studio’s belief in beauty with purpose.
Local materials define the home’s identity: Mallorcan stone, timber, and breathable lime render, all chosen for their integrity and connection to place. Sustainability is woven throughout, from the salt-water infinity pool to the solar panels and native landscaping. Indoors and outdoors flow seamlessly, terraces, French doors, and gentle transitions create a relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle. Every detail, from the wine cellar to the elevated views, layers practicality with understated luxury.
Its location in Alaró is key to the home’s charm. Set in a valley framed by the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, the house blends into the existing streetscape rather than dominating it. This project represents more than a renovation; it reflects the studio’s ethos of meaningful design, beauty that respects history, celebrates craftsmanship, and enhances the soul of a place. For lovers of real architecture and Mallorca’s quiet magic, Can Oreneta is a testament to thoughtful living.
